My Fluctuating affection with Hollywood sirens
From Angelina Jolie to my current favorite Anne Hathaway my appreciation for Hollywood’s female talent have always been fluctuating unlike their male counterparts where it has been constant from almost the moment I saw his first movie “Heat” featuring “Al-Pacino”.
It all started with wanting to get more of the very gorgeous and wildly popular back then Angelina Jolie , though my love for her is still the same, but after experiencing and experimenting with different movies over the years I have come across some immensely talented women from the art of film-making over the years.
Angeline Jolie:
As a young teenager seeing Ms. Jolie (back then) in a tomb raider movie had my heart beat racing, she gave me goose bumps with the things she did onscreen. To me back then no other women was as lovable and admirable as her.

Then seeing her sexiest role till date in my view “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” she was all over my heart and brain like a viral disease. Eventually with time and a more maturity I got over her only after watching Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction.
Uma Thurman:
Uma Thurman’s brilliant portrayal as Mia Wallace directed me into appreciating female characters in a totally different way. It opened doors for me to appreciate works of actresses like Helen Mirren, Judy Dench and Meryl Streep. Though not by any means her work is comparable to that trio of legends but this particular movie got me interested in watching cinema with quality.

Her roles in Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2 were wildly entertaining for which Tarantino should be rightfully credited, nevertheless she ruled my heart for that particular period in my life. Her roles outside Tarantino’s direction are dismal to say the least but there is no denying that this lady has loads of talent in her.
Kate Winslet:
Meanwhile between Angelina Jolie and Uma Thurman, silently I was bamboozled by her charm in Titanic and only after watching the movie Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind, Kate Winslet has captured my mind as Clementine since the day I watched that movie. It was her dynamic character that turned me on and made me appreciate her work even more in Titanic.

She is a very consistent actress with lots of talent, in almost every movie of hers she never failed to impress. She had been very unlucky with Oscars (not as unlucky as Leo) until finally got rewarded for her role in “The Reader” for playing the character Hannah Schmitz. That wasn’t her best role but I was filled with joy seeing her finally winning an Oscar nevertheless.
Cate Blanchett:
Then came the mighty Cate Blanchett well known for playing multifarious roles, her ferocious monologues are hard to miss and more importantly hard to depreciate. Her role in Elizabeth: The Golden Age was the first time I watched her and after that I have watched almost all of her filmography and each role she played is very enjoyable and pleasing to watch.

Her roles in The Aviator as Katharine Hephburn and as Queen Elizabeth are my favorite ones.
Anne Hathaway:
Then came along the beauty and the brains of Anne Hathaway. First recognized her in the movie The Devil Wears Prada and later made her presence felt with roles in passengers, Get Smart and Oscar nominated performance in Rachael Getting Married. It was not until that movie I wasn’t her fan and frankly saying it was the first role she could really show her acting chops in and she didn’t disappointed.

It’s hard to make your presence felt when you are performing in the shadows of Meryl Streep. In The Devil Wears Prada she did just that. It was a sign of an actress with a talent waiting to be recognized. Her future looks promising as would anybody’s if they are starring opposite Johnny Depp in a Time Burton’s movie i.e. the wildly awaited 2010 release of “Alice in Wonderland”.
Beyond these talented women there are far more interesting careers to look to in future. Also from the television side there is a pool of actresses fighting hard trying to make their presence felt. In the age of Megan Fox and Jessica Alba, talented women like Brie Larson, Rosemarie DeWitt, Elizabeth Perkins, CCH Ponder and countless others are fighting it out to make it big in the Hollywood.
So, that was my journey of joy, infatuation and dreams full of pleasantries from Angelina Jolie to Anne Hathaway. These women changed my perception of an “actress” from time to time, initially from beauty to making you interact and feel with flesh and blood of the characters they play. It’s not just a beautiful face that counts after all, in the long run talent and skills are essential for sustenance of a fan base.
